Chantix is an anti-smoking drug meant to help addicted smokers quite tobacco products. It reduces nicotine cravings and makes smoking less pleasurable. It was invented by and continues to be marketed by Pfizer. In some Pfizer sponsored studies it has been found that varenicline is more effective at smoking cessation than is bupropion. The amount of Chantix side effects is disconcerting.

Unfortunately, a number of side effects are associated with Chantix, including, but certainly not limited to:

  • Suicidal Tendencies
  • Stroke
  • Heart Attack
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Cardiovascular problems
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Constipation
  • Abnormal Dreams

Although some speculated that these side effects had more to do with nicotine withdrawal than with Chantix, it should be noted that not all those who experienced these side effects actually stopped smoking (in fact, most people who take Chantix do not stop smoking). In fact, many people note that the health effects begin when they start taking the drug and cease when the ingestion of the drug stops as well.

As of 2009, the FDA mandated a Black Box warning for Chantix and Zyban (bupropion) about the possible mental health problems associated with the aforementioned drugs.

If you or a loved one has been injured as a result of taking Chantix, contact our attorneys today. You may be entitled to compensation, and it is our goal to secure a just recompense.
