Pacerone, which is an alternate brand to Amiodarone, is a drug known as an antiarrhythmic agent. It is used to treat a variety of cardiac dysrhythmias. Pacerone was originally developed from plant extract. Pacerone has a number of very serious side effects. Interestingly, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was reluctant to approve Amiodarone, but American doctors were procuring the drug from foreign sources. European suppliers threatened to cut off the supply unless the FDA would approve the drug. Thus, Pacerone became one of the few approved drugs that didn't undergo extensive clinical trials. Pacerone is manufactured by Upsher-Smith Laboratories.

Many doctors do not inform patients about the serious side effects of Pacerone; they also do not inform patients about the fact that this drugs was approved by the FDA on the fast track. In 2004, doctors wrote prescrptions for as many as 2.3 million patients, and many of these prescriptions were not for approved conditions.

Pacerone side effects are very serious and also very common, which is why this drug is viewed by responsible professionals as a last resort. Amiodarone side effects include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Interstital Lung Disease
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Hyperthyriodism
  • Corneal Micro-Deposits
  • Skin Discoloration
  • Jaundice
  • Hypatomegaly
  • Hepatitis
  • Pseudo-Alcoholic Cirrhosis
  • Abnormal Liver Enzyme Results
  • Gynecomastia
  • Epididymtitis
  • Peripheral Neuropathies
  • Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN)
  • Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS)

The side effects to the lungs, such as lund disease and pulmonary fibrosis, are much more likely for patients who have decreased lung function. Doctors are warned about prescribing this drug to people who have such conditions.

Furthermore, Pacerone has a number of counterindications. For example, pregnant women are at much high risk of developing Amiodarone adverse effects than are women who are not pregnant.

If you or a loved one has been injured by Amiodarone side effects, you might be entitled to compensation. A Pacerone law firm can help you pursue your case with the greatest possible efficacy.
